We would like to start by thanking each and every one of you who has supported us in this fight. For those who are just joining us we stated this fight nearly a year ago. We have been working to keep local residents and others informed about this proposed power plant and it’s associated risks. Throughout this process we have made many new friends and allies. We have many local residents and business owners who have been supporting us in our fight to prevent the destruction of pristine forest for the construction of a power plant by a company who has yet to complete a power plant. Also, we have gained the support of other organizations including Wyndham Land Trust, Pomfret Rod and Gun Club, Concerned Citizens for a Safe Northeastern Connecticut, Connecticut Fund for the Environment and the Sierra Club.
We spent much of last spring, summer and into the autumn attending meetings, staging rallies, circulating petitions. We have people behind the scenes who have been conducting research into this proposed power plant and the risks it would bring They were also analyzing the extensive volumes of data that has been filed with the application for this proposed power plant. The research and analysis have also continued through this winter.
The Connecticut Siting Council has been conducting hearings in New Britain regards to this proposed project. “The Council is responsible for balancing the need for adequate and reliable public utility services at the lowest reasonable cost to consumers with the need to protect the environment and ecology of the state.” NAPP , Connecticut Fund for the Environment, Wyndham Land Trust and the Sierra Club have been participating in the hearings held by the Siting Council as well as the Town of Killingly. NAPP and the Sierra Club have hired Synapse Energy Economics to analyze the need or lack of need that exists for this power plant and present their finding to the Siting Council. Our attorney as well as the attorneys representing the Sierra Club and the Connecticut Fund for the environment have been working diligently and have been doing an excellent job. The Town of Killingly has been represented at all of the hearings as well.
We will continue to fight this in order to protect the air we breathe and the water we drink not just for us but for future generations. We do ask for your support in this fight. Donations can be made through Paypal or Gofundme.com. Thank you again for all of your support. NAPP
